Build a track record.

I saw this today and it rings true.

I have recruited people, I have applied to jobs. I understand the resume game.

I am exhausted. But if there’s one advice that rings true, it is this, you need to have a project you can talk about in minute detail. Resumes are gamed daily. With chatGPT and AI it can become stuffy and run of the mill.

Projects can’t be gamed though. A project can be anything that’s published. Apps, blogs, videos, podcasts, audio or any produced material that can be experienced. And then evaluated.

Don’t re-design or code Facebook. Build an app that you love like a comic book store. Or a review website. Talk about it. Facebook is incredibly complex. A lot of internal systems work together to bring Facebook to you. Those systems are unknown to you as an outsider. Any answer you come up with is insufficient in its assumptions. You might show gusto and direction, but you won’t know enough.

A project implemented is the best yardstick of evaluation.

Bonus points if it relates to the company you are applying to.
